BLUE SHIELD NORWAY: ANNUAL REPORT 2013


The Norwegian Blue Shield Committee (BSN) in 2013 consisted of Axel Mykleby (ICOMOS) (chair), Leif Pareli (ICOM) (deputy chair) Ingeborg Rygh Hjorthen succeeded by Sissel Merethe Berg (IFLA) and Kari Ansnes (ICA) (treasurer). The Committee had three meetings during the year as well as frequent contact by e-mail. Most important issues in 2013 were:

Ratification of the Second Protocol of the Hague Convention
Regrettably, the ratification process has been delayed once again.

Destruction of Cultural heritage in the conflicts in Syria and Mali
Participation in media and press on these issues

Participation in the Travel and Tourism Exhibition:
BSN participated in the Norwegian Travel and Tourism Exhibition in January 2013, with Arts Council Norway, ICOM Norway and others, handing out information about illegal trade with cultural property.

The Blue Shield Card deck:
BSN participated in producing a deck of cards with texts and pictures of cultural heritage at risk in war situations, in cooperation with the Arts Council Norway, ICOM Norway, the Directorate of Cultural Heritage and the Norwegian Defence University College. The cards were produced by the end of 2012 and distributed at various occasions during 2013.

Assistance in founding a Blue Shield committee in Iceland. Leif Pareli lectured at a meeting in Reykjavik in June and gave advice on how to found a national committee for Iceland.

Participation in the Association of National Committees of the Blue Shield (ANCBS)
As Treasurer of ANCBS, Axel Mykleby participated in several meetings.

Nordic Conference on the Protection of Cultural Property in Armed Conflict, Copenhagen 18.-19. September 2013. Axel Mykleby represented Blue Shield Norway (and ANCBS) at the conference.
