BLUE SHIELD NORWAY: ANNUAL REPORT 2012

The Norwegian Blue Shield Committee (BSN) in 2012 consisted of Axel Mykleby (ICOMOS) (chair), Leif Pareli (ICOM) (deputy chair) Ingeborg Rygh Hjorthen (IFLA) and Inge Manfred Bjørlin (ICA). The representation of CCAAA in the Committee is still unresolved. Due to many commitments, the Committee had only one meeting during the year (the Annual meeting on March 19th) but had frequent contact by e-mail.

The most important issues for the committee in 2012 were:

Ratification of the Second Protocol of the Hague Convention:
Regrettably the ratification has been postponed again.

A stack of “Cultural playing cards”
Produced in cooperation with The Arts Council Norway, The Norwegian Directorate for Cultural heritage, ICOM Norway and the Norwegian Armed Forces with the aim of increasing knowledge and public awareness of the value and rights of cultural property.

Public debate about where to locate the new Edvard Munch Museum in Oslo

Destruction of Cultural Property in Syria

Participation in Travel and Tourism Exhibition

Participation in the Association of National Committees of the Blue Shield (ANCBS)
As Treasurer of ANCBS, Axel Mykleby participated in the General Assembly of ANCBS in Vienna April 25th – 27th where he was re-elected as treasurer for another three years’ term.

Finances
Until now, BSN has not had its own budget or resources; the travel expenses of the chairman have been covered by the Arts Council. A bank account for the BS Committee has recently been established by the Library Association and will be transferred to the BS Committee.
